Will return: Definitely. I am bringing more people next time to order the entire menu.
What to get: Everything in this post
Half of the menu at Dieci is comprised of uni-based dishes. It was my mission to eat here, which I did, and it was delicious. Everything we had was tremendously good. Actually everything. The only caveat is that the portions are tiny so savor each bite.
Fluke Sashimi ($12) with yuzu pepper and ceviche sauce
The fluke was ever so slightly poached. Very clean, light, and refreshing.
Uni Scrambled Egg ($18) with sturgeon caviar
This was such a good combination of my beloved uni and eggs. Why don’t my eggs come out like this?
Miso Seared Foie Gras ($15) with simmered daikon
The daikon (white radish) went so well with the foie gras and the sauce was perfection.
If you are wondering why these are the most terrible photos I’ve ever taken (second to Upstate, which is also a very good New York restaurant that I cannot recommend enough), Dieci is lit mostly by candles. My poor companion had to hold up hot candles for lighting (sorry) because I didn’t want to blind the entire restaurant with iPhone flash. He never want to eat with me again.
Filet Mignon Steak ($28) with truffled soy reduction and mushroom couscous
The filet was well executed and paired nicely with the couscous. I usually don’t like couscous because I have only had really dry and tasteless couscous but this was moist and seasoned.
Miso Black Cod ($28) with truffled mushroom risotto and poached egg
Really, really excellent all around. Good flavoring of the miso cod and risotto. Perfectly poached egg.
Strawberry Compote ($8) with mascarpone mousse and truffled balsamic glaze
This tastes much more impressive than it looks. A rush of of contrasting sweet and savory flavors that synced up perfectly with each bite.
