I am not a pho lover — I don’t dislike it but I don’t care for it either. When it comes to noodles in soup, I am all about Japanese ramen okay. But with the opening of Bun Cha Cha Vietnamese Eatery, I have discovered a tasty dish called “bun cha” because I am such a noob and have never had it before. Since the restaurant is named after this dish, it is of course the main attraction and the menu comes with a variety of dishes to supplement the bun cha. There is obligatory pho here because it is a Vietnamese restaurant but I don’t think the restaurant is pushing it and I don’t really care about it either.

Side note for cilantro haters unite: Vietnamese food contains a lot of cilantro (are you even a proper cilantro hater if you don’t know that). All of these dishes are going to come with cilantro in some shape or form on the side or inside so if you are like me where cilantro tastes like soap to you, make sure to tell the staff no cilantro when you order.

Vietnamese drip coffee (RMB35 iced/hot)
Recommend: yes
I love Vietnamese coffee because it has contains milk. I asked the staff if hot or iced was better and was recommended iced. After the coffee finishes dripping into the cup, stir the coffee and condensed milk together and pour everything into the ice to make an iced coffee. This will be great for summer.

Chicken liver pate (RMB38)
Recommend: yes
Pate for just RMB38?! Yes, please! The pate is on the lighter side and slides easily onto the nicely toasted bread. It’s a great accompaniment to the meal. If you order a banh mi, I highly recommend smearing extra pate onto your sandwich for extra gluttony.

Vietnamese spring rolls/shrimp/pork/vermicelli (RMB38 for 2 rolls)
Recommend: maybe
This one comes down to personal preference as I generally like fried rolls (which are also on the menu) more than spring rolls because I am a fatty. But if you have more self control than me with fried foods, then you will probably like this.

Look how healthy this is.

Fried fish sauce chicken wings (RMB38 for 4 pieces)
Recommend: yes
Very yummy with a tad of sweetness.

“Bun cha” pork (RMB58) / “Bun bo” beef (RMB68) / “Bun ga” chicken (RMB58) / or all (RMB168)
Recommend: yes (pork is my favorite here)
This comes with choice of pork patties, beef patties, or chicken served with vermicelli, pickled vegetables, fresh mint, basil, shiso and lettuce, lime fish sauce, and garlic and chili. I also like to add a little hoisin sauce myself. I have had both the pork and beef patties and I think the pork is superior to the beef (even though I am normally a beef over pork person).

Apparently there are two ways of eating this and you will see a tutorial on your placemat. One way is to put the ingredients into the bowl of lime fish sauce and the other, which I prefer more, is to wrap the ingredients up like Korean BBQ.

Caramel flan (RMB38) and coconut ice cream (RMB45)
Recommend: yes to both

For me, Bun Cha Cha is super convenient because it is next to my workout studio FHIIT Lab, which mixes interval running on treadmill with floor weight exercises, so I always grab a [relatively] healthy bite here after class… unless I order the chicken pate.
