People often ask me if I cook. And the answer is no. Literally no. My kitchen is spotless because I don’t use it. My ayi only has to wash spoons used to dip into the Nutella jar. I am sure she thinks I have the weirdest diet ever.

But I do own a juicer and I use that sometimes in my kitchen. For those occasions, Mian Mian 绵绵 is the place I get fresh fruits and vegetables from to make the juices with. The reason is because I like to lift as few fingers as possible Mian Mian pre-packages fresh produce into individual juice recipes and delivers them; I don’t have to figure out how many pineapples, apples, or carrots to buy and I don’t even have to step foot into a grocery store. Win win. Put the produce into the juicer, turn it on, and out comes juice. It’s pretty easy (although my roommate managed to mess it up once and wrecked havoc on our kitchen counter).

What is this.
Mian Man is founded by some young lads: two are engineers and the third owns the farm where the produce is grown. They source vegetables and fruits from their own farm, package them into juice recipes, and deliver them to make at home. Box of 7 recipes worth of fruits and vegetables go for RMB¥280-300 or individual / a la carte recipes go for RMB¥38-63. Each recipe makes about 500-600mL worth of juice; that means about 1.5-2 glasses depending on the glass size.

Also, please note that this is not a juice cleanse. It is juice supplement to eating a normal diet. One or two glasses a day to get add some nutrients.

How this works.
Mian Mian formulates juice recipes, packs fresh fruits and vegetable for each recipe individually, and sends it to you. Each box has 7 recipes or 7 bags of pre-grouped fruits and vegetables. Each bag usually yields 1.5-2 glasses of juice. See Mian Mian for detailed prices. I use the morning boost (RMB¥300 per box)–one juice a day to kick start my mornings.

The box comes with a description of each juice recipe. Each recipe is pre-packaged and labeled. Each package is also labeled whether the produce has been pre-washed or requires additional wash. The key is that the ingredients are pre-portioned so everything gets used. This is literally juice making for dummies. It’s amazing how little thinking this involves. And honestly, if you can get any lazier and don’t feel like making juice one day, just eat the fruit; it’s good for you anyway. Dual purpose–I like to call it–although I am sure the Mian Mian founders are face palming right now.

How to make the juices.
You can use your own juicer or purchase one through Mian Mian’s partner Hurom. The juicer retails for RMB¥2,600 and various discount levels are available depending on how many juice packages you order. So it is actually possible to get a juicer for free  if you dedicate yourself to like 40 boxes but that’s for the extreme.

Cut ingredients. Put into juicer. That’s literally it.

I will let you know if my roommate gets any better at this in the future.
