Remedy 源氣 365, recently soft opened in June, aims for healthy but not boring food that actually tastes good. Impossible? I thought so until I got a chance to try half the menu. While the individual dishes are not considered fusion, the menu combines a variety of influences so you will see dishes like Thai spice salad or pita & hummus.
When asked about his culinary background, owner Sam Tung responded simply, “growing up, I just always loved food and loved to cook.” That’s the kind of answer I like to hear. Sam has teamed up with Michelin-starred chef Alvin Leung (of Bo London and Bo Innovation in Hong Kong) to come up with the dishes. Even better.
Remedy 365 stems from parent company Eu Yan Sang, a traditional Chinese medicine brand that has been around for over 130 years. I am not worried about the quality of the ingredients here; they have a reputation uphold and they know it. Remedy 365 cooks its food without any MSG or preservatives. No deep fried butter here (no one needs that… ever). Remedy 365 also selectively sources ingredients directly from vegetable and livestock farms. Due to diverse sources and seasonal availability, the menu changes monthly to keep things fresh (literally and for revisiting customers’ taste buds).
P.S. I noticed the servers wear gloves when changing utensils. Why didn’t anyone else think to do that?
(RM¥B15) with hibiscus flower (roselle), hawthorne berry, honey and water cane herbal drink (RMB¥15) with water chestnut, sugar cane.
Light soup to start.
(RMB¥45) with romaine, goji dressing, parmesan
Caesar with a twist of rich goji dressing topped bacon bits and parmesan cheese. This is the most interesting (and delicious) Caesar salad I have come across yet.
(RMB¥38) with grilled beets, white kidney beans, arugula
Recommend: you will like it only if you like the ingredients in this
You have to like main ingredients to like this dish. I say this because beets and kidney beans are foods that are not commonly liked by the general population (kind of like how people either love or hate cilantro). Moreover, there is a touch of feta cheese on top, which is also not for everyone. I don’t like this for myself because I don’t like kidney beans in general. But someone else at the table had a good time eating this.
(RMB¥45) with bell pepper, zucchini, hummus, pita
Put the warm vegetables into the pita pocket and dump all of the hummus in. The hummus is so good. Such a simple dish but I like this a lot. I think this was meant to be shared for the table but I took the whole thing.
(RMB¥80) with lightly seared maguro, peas, beans, tomatoes, lettuce
(RMB¥78) with filet of beef, Thai spices, veggies
The beef is partly raw and surrounded by flavors reminiscent of a Thai salad.
(RMB¥110) with brown rice, avocado, salsa
This combo is bomb. Mix it all up and eat.
(RMB¥150) with bell pepper sauce, barley
Recommend: definitely (my favorite of this meal)
Fatty salmon topped with a layer of super crispy skin. This salmon is most definitely not boring.
(RMB¥138) with Dalian large prawns, ratatouille, avocado
No trace of fishy shrimp taste at all. Best of all: pre-peeled!
(RMB¥170) with grilled cinnamon apples, cornbread
For the meat eaters.
And of course there is always room for dessert. My favorite is the lemon cheesecake.
Lemon bar 柠檬塔 (RMB¥30) lemon curd on soft crumble
(RMB¥35) with red bean soup
