The Cannery just rolled out an insane seafood & champagne brunch that zero people can afford. The selection includes chilled raw seafood platters that range from RMB688 to 4,888 with the most opulent decked out with Cristal and Black Pearl caviar. Just a typical brunch in Shanghai. Please note this is offered on Sundays only.

These were the chef’s choice offerings during our visit:

The Burrard Inlet (RMB688/RMB888 with quartet Roederer Estate Brut)
Oysters, kingfish tartare, smoked salmon, pickled mussels and clams, winkles, prawns, 1/2 Dungeness crab and young Canadian lobster.

The Georgia Strait (RMB1,388/RMB1,888 with Louis Roederer Brut Premier)
Lots more oysters, kingfish tartare, smoked salmon, pickled mussels and clams, winkles, prawns, smoked oysters, whole Dungeness crab and young Canadian lobster.

The Pacific Ocean (RMB3,888/RMB4,888 with Louis Roederer Cristal)
Even more oysters, kingfish tartare, smoked salmon, steamed mussels and clams, winkles, prawns, whole scampi, whole Dungeness crab, 50g Black Pearl caviar and 1kg Canadian lobster.

All things considered, the RMB688/RMB888 seafood platter is still within the realm of normal people and is good for 2-3 to share. It comes out to RMB344 per person — RMB444 with champagne. Champagne brunches go for more than this in Shanghai.

Everything was fresh and high quality. We had the RMB1,388/1,888 version and this is worth springing for. As for the RMB3,888/RMB4,888 platter, I would also like to know when I will be able to try it.

Trying to finish the platter between two people was a delightful struggle but we did it. Three people could share this.

Aside from champagne, there are some great cocktails on the menu as expected. We tried the ‘I should’ve had a V8’ Mary (RMB78) with Grey Goose vodka, house-made 8 vegetable juice, spices, and lemon. Spicy and peppery.

Topped the afternoon off with ice cream and sorbet (RMB48 each).
