Shengjianbao is a must-have in Shanghai and Yang’s Dumplings 小杨生煎 is a must-try place for these. The characters sheng-jian-bao literally translate to raw-fried-bun. These delicious babies are fried crispy on one side and filled with soup inside.
People often compare Yang’s to Da Hu Chun. Yang’s shengjianbao skin is very thin whereas Da Hu Chun’s is more fluffy. It’s all a matter of personal preference and there are days when I prefer one and days when I prefer the other. Either way, both are delicious.
Shengjianbao 生煎包 (RMB¥6 for four pieces)
Thin skin on the outside and soupy pork filling inside.
